Smaller peptides are conjugated to a carrier molecule in order to create a suitable antigen. This will prevent the peptide to get cleared too quickly in the host, and promote a proper immune response. The carriers that are most commonly used are KLH, THR, OVA and BSA. The carriers are easiest conjugated to the peptide via a cystein.
