Antibodies keep you safe

11/15/2017

Picture
The antibody is a fantastic protein. Antibodies make every batch of food and biological products entering our stores safe. Their ability to specifically bind to a unique molecule make antibodies irreplaceable in quality assurance of food and biological products.  Antibodies screen products to prevent contaminated and poor batches reaching the store shelves. These are our top three picks that illustrate how antibodies keep us safe.

  1. FOOD: Serious food borne illnesses are most commonly caused by E.Coli, Salmonella and Listeria. WHO has estimated about 600 million food borne illnesses worldwide and over 420,0000 deaths in 2010. http://www.who.int/foodsafety/areas_work/foodborne-diseases/ferg/en/ Antibodies have the amazing ability to prevent contaminated vegetables, meat, dairy products and processed food from exiting the production facilities.
  2. FARM ANIMALS: Antibodies are able to track down and prevent the spread of lethal viral and bacterial outbreaks in live stock.
  3. BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS: Pure components like collagens and hyaluronic acids are increasingly used in cosmetic and skin products. In order for these products to be safe to use on our bodies, the production of the molecules need to be monitored by antibodies. The same goes for many dietary supplements. Another area of biological products are enzymes in washing detergents: these need to be at just the right concentration to do the work effeciently.
Antibodies used in these applications are polyclonal or monoclonal.

4 Amazing Uses of Antibodies

Did you know that antibodies improve our lives in so many ways? The antibody is a fantastic protein. Its ability to specifically bind to a unique molecule makes it irreplaceable in medicine, diagnosis and in quality assurance of food and biological products. Moreover, antibodies are widely used in the research and development of new groundbreaking discoveries. Antibodies enhance life quality in so many ways. These are our top 4.

1. FOOD AND BIOPRODUCT SAFETY Antibodies are widely used in quality control in production facilities. This makes every batch of food and biological products entering the stores safe, illuminating contaminated or poor batches. Antibodies used in these applications are polyclonal or monoclonal.

2. SELF-DIAGNOSIS For example, antibodies indicate the results when using a regular pregnancy test kit. Many valuable antibody-based self-diagnosis kits are approaching the market today. Antibodies used in these applications are polyclonal or monoclonal.

3. DIAGNOSIS FOR TREATMENT Many novel drugs work on specific subgroups of human diseases. Antibodies make it possible to pick out the right patients for treatment. These screening antibodies are monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies.

4. THERAPY Antibodies are widely used to treat several diseases such as multiple sclerosis,
rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and several different cancers including colorectal cancer and breast cancer. These antibodies are usually humanized monoclonal antibodies.

Antibody drug market reaches new highs

9/12/2017

It is estimated the global market for antibody drugs will reach $114.6 billion by 2022, up from $84.5 billion in 2017, with a 6.3% annual growth rate. In comparison, the global market for research antibodies (monoclonal and polyclonal) reached almost $3 billion this year, with a similar annual growth rate.

In 2016, monoclonal antibody drugs had the largest share of the market in autoimmune diseases with about 46.1%. Solid tumors, lymphoma and leukemia, and other diseases had market shared of 24.2%, 13.2% and 16.5%, respectively.

Humanized monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are the largest segment in terms of revenue, followed by other monoclonal antibody categories such as human, chimeric and murine.
Diagnostic antibodies market is also a fast growing industry, globally exceeding ten billion dollars annually.

Capra Science Antibodies continues to expand

8/21/2017

We are happy to experience that the demand for high quality polyclonal antibody production produced with high ethical standards is increasing each year.

To meet the growing demand, Capra Science has recently acquired an additional farm and continues to expand. This enables us to offer our services to even more clients and take on larger projects. The acquisition immediately results in additional animal facility space and more acres of grazing land for our growing herd of antibody producing animals.

What's happening on our farm?

Whould you like to know how our goats live throughout the year? Check out what's happening this season.

We are expanding our laboratory space

7/31/2016

We are pleased to inform that during the autumn of 2016 we are increasing our laboratory space in order to take care of the increasing amounts of antigens and antibodies being processed at Capra Science.

Last year, Capra Science increased production capacity of polyclonal antibody generation. This expansion was a natural advancement to meet up with the steadily increasing demand of antibodies from Capra Science.  Antibodies that are produced with high ethical standards.

Getting ahead in your  research with custom antibodies

7/26/2016

There are several common problems that often take up a lot of unnecessary time when working with commercial antibodies. The antibody might cross-react and leave you with a so called 'false positive' result. Or you get no reaction at all, even though you know for sure the antigen target is present in some amount (you get a 'false negative'). And sometimes your favorite antibody gets discontinued and you find yourself spending a lot of time finding a substitute elsewhere.

Many of these frustrating problems can be easily avoided by custom producing your antibody directly at a regarded manufacturer. This way the antibody is specifically fit for your application which dramatically reduces the risk of the antibody not working. Discontinued antibodies also becomes a thing of the past since you can decide to produce as much antibody as you want, at much lower cost than normal.

Capra Science not only produces top-performance antibodies, but also provide expert consultation for antibody generation. This is great if you are unsure about how to start the process of making your own custom antibody, yet want the benefits of a custom antibody.

Antibody-based drug development still going strong

7/14/2016

The last years, the efforts of developing antibody-based drugs for treatment of complex diseases are maintaining on a high level. Here are some examples that have been published in the mainstream media  the last six months:
-    Antibodies against antibiotic-resistant bacteria is developing as a complement to current antibiotics
-    New antibody-based drugs are developing as a treatment against ALS
-    Anti-HIV antibody cocktail is developing as protection against early HIV-infection
-    Antibodies against cancer growth and malignancy are being developed by several research teams

As the technology for large-scale antibody manufacturing is advancing and becoming more efficient,  the production is on its way of getting more cost-effective. This is a positive development for health care budgets and pharma companies, and last and most important, for all patients.

Reliable antibodies - critical in drug development

11/23/2015

In drug development, antibodies are frequently used in assays to monitor a variety of parameters during preclinical and Clinical trials. As these antibodies have an important role in demonstrating the effects, and in some case the presence, of the specific drug, it is essential that the antibodies are reliable and specific.

At Capra Science, we have a long experience in developing polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies for drug development.  We develop robust purification strategies and develop customized assay protocols for the validation process.

Like many other pharma companies,  you are welcome to use our experience and resources to develop your antibodies for drug development.
